CORKTOWN PROPERTY MANAGEMENT
The Gluzberg team is no stranger to managing property in Corktown. We have always had a strong presence in this thriving Toronto neighbourhood because we recognize its sparkling personality and trendy architecture.
THE AREA
Just east of downtown Toronto, Corktown is one of the city’s oldest neighbourhoods. In the early 19 th century, it was an industrial hub, home to breweries, brickyards and other manufacturers. Irish immigrants worked the factories and populated the area, dwelling in modest cottages and narrow row houses. A large swath of Corktown was bulldozed in the 1960s, and paved over with roadways and ramps that afforded drivers better access in and out of the city. Today, Corktown is in the midst of a massive revitalization, with an abundance of new residential units and local businesses springing up. Gluzberg property management is active in this popular Toronto area.
THE VIBE
This formerly under-valued, somewhat derelict chunk of the city is now pulsing with growth and energy. There’s a cool urban vibe, a feeling of youth, change, renewal and the birth of a burgeoning community. Everywhere you look, new condominium complexes are being built, with new businesses opening to serve them. The stunning Cooper Koo Family YMCA, a legacy building from the 2015 PanAm Games, sits at the heart of the Canary District, with its ultra-
modern neighbour The George—George Brown College’s first Toronto residence building. The 18-acre Corktown Common park and trails offers up excellent green-space in the midst of this hip urban ‘hood, and the very cool Distillery District is a just a short walk away.
REAL ESTATE
For the past ten years, Corktown has been the site of massive change and revitalization. Tiny renovated row houses and workers cottages are hot properties, and new high/mid-rise condominium complexes are breathing life into this formerly neglected area of the city. Store fronts and industrial warehouse space are increasingly being transformed into mixed use live/work units. With its close proximity to the downtown core, the area will continue to attract young urban professionals, as well as new businesses to serve them. Expect this currently more affordable area of the city to see significant increases in property values.
